A few months ago, we shared an Easter Popcorn recipe that is not only delicious, but fun to make! You probably have all of the ingredients on hand to make this cookies and cream popcorn. It is as simple as popcorn, cereal, powdered sugar, chocolate chips, and sandwich cookies.
Here is what you need to make Cookies and Cream Popcorn:
- Popcorn (popped – we used 1 3 oz. bag)
- 1 bag White or Milk chocolate chips (or almond bark)
- Oreo Cookies (or knock offs) half of package
- Chex cereal (4 cups)
- Powdered Sugar (1 cup)
- Sprinkles (if desired)
- Glass bowl
- Metal bowl
- plastic spoon
Cookies and Cream Popcorn
First, you will take the popcorn and pop it – if it is not already. When the popcorn is done, you will put it into a large bowl. Make sure you don’t get any kernels into the bowl
To prepare to mix the ingredients with the popcorn, you will want to put the cookies, a few at a time, into a food processor and chop them. You can have some bigger pieces, in fact, I recommend it.
Add 2 cups of the Chex cereal and 1 cup of the crushed cookies to the popcorn. Mix. Get the powdered sugar ready (and sprinkles if desired). Mix 3/4 cup of powdered sugar with 1 cup of crushed cookies. You will add this later.
Now you will melt the chocolate. You can do this in the microwave or on the stove. In the microwave, you will use a large glass bowl and just microwave for 30 seconds at a time until melted. DO NOT OVERCOOK.
To melt the chocolate on the stove, you will put a glass bowl on top of a pot full of boiling water. This takes longer. It is up to you which method to use. Whichever way you choose, make sure your bowl is microwave/heat safe!
When your chocolate is melted, you will pour it over the popcorn mixture, stirring as you go. This part is great if you can have someone else help stir while you pour, or vice versa.
With everything coated with chocolate, you will now add the powdered sugar and cookie crumble mixture. Do this a little at a time while someone is stirring. This will give a delicious coating to the chocolate covered popcorn. You can also add sprinkles, chocolate M&M’s and so much more to give it a season look.
We did both a regular style for any day of the year and an Easter style Cookies and Cream popcorn! We got the cutest Easter bunny treat cups from Oriental Trading to put the popcorn in. My kids loved it while they watched the movie!
