My family loves camping and getting together. There are so many different kinds of Dutch oven recipes that we love to use, but one of our favorites is Dutch Oven S’mores. They are really easy to make, and are ready in about 10 minutes. Our Dutch oven holds about 11 squares, so we are able to make a lot of them quickly which is nice, especially with our big family. We used the new Honey Made S’mores Squares and they worked perfect.
First be sure to get the hot coals started to that when the S’mores are put together you can put them straight onto the hot coals so they will heat faster. Once you have the coals heating, you will want to prepare the S’mores in the dutch oven. If you don’t have a way to cook them on hot coals, you can do it on a stove (we used our Camp Chef portable stove) and they still turned out amazing!
To make the S’mores, you want to take two sheets of heavy duty tinfoil and line the bottom of the Dutch oven, laying them criss-cross. Then take the Honey Maid S’mores squares out and lay them out in a single layer in the bottom, not overlapping any of the pieces. Then take a marshmallow and put one marshmallow on each piece of Graham Cracker. Once you have the graham crackers and marshmallows laid out, take the Hershey’s chocolate and put two rectangles on each marshmallow. Cover the Dutch oven with the lib, then put the Dutch oven on the hot coals (or the stove).
Heat them for about 5 minutes then take the lid off the Dutch Oven and put the other cracker (the top) on each S’more and then if you can, flip them so that they will heat evenly. We did some where we flipped them and some where we didn’t and they both turned out great. The only difference is that the ones we didn’t flip cooked to a little darker color (not burnt, but getting there) so be sure to watch for that. Depending on where they are in the Dutch oven too, as to how much direct heat they get.
After about 5-10 minutes (depending on heat) they should be done. Once they are done, take them off the heat and wait a few minutes before you hand them out. These Dutch Oven S’mores are a delicious gooey treat that taste amazing. They literally flew off the plate. You will want to make these for your next family gathering.
Next time you are at Wal-mart be sure to pick up the Kraft Marshmallows, Hershey’s Chocolate Bars, and Honey Maid Graham Crackers for the best tasting Dutch Oven S’mores.
I would love to know what you think about these. Leave a comment telling me your favorite S’mores recipe.
I love that you can make a large batch at once! What a great idea! Thanks for sharing! #client
