Popcorn is one of our favorite treats, especially for movies. But we have been having fun creating with some of our free time now and we made this delicious cookies and cream popcorn Easter style. We loved it so much we had to share it with you!
This is easy to make and you don’t need very many ingredients.
- 1 3 oz. bag of Popcorn (popped)
- 1 bag of White chocolate chips (or almond bark)
- 1 package of Oreo Cookies (or knock offs)
- 2 cups of Rice Chex cereal
- 1cup Powdered Sugar
- Sprinkles (if desired)
- 1 cup Marshmallows (we got the rainbow ones)
- 1 cup M&M’s (Easter colors)
- 1/2 cup Shredded coconut (leftover from our Easter sugar cookies)
- Glass bowl (one for microwaving)(another for mixing, or use a plastic bowl)
- plastic or wooden spoons (one for the chocolate, one for mixing)
Easter Popcorn – Cookies and Cream Popcorn
First, you will take the popcorn and pop it – if it is not already. When the popcorn is done, you will put it into a large bowl. Shake it around to move all the unpoped kernels to the bottom and then carefully add it to a different bowl. Make sure you don’t get any kernels into the bowl you will be adding the chocolate to. Throw the uncooked kernels away.
To prepare to mix the ingredients with the popcorn, you will want to put the cookies into a food processor and chop them. We did about 12 completely crushed, and about 12 about half crushed so there are bigger pieces.
Add 2 cups of the Chex cereal and 1 cup of the crushed cookies to the popcorn. Mix. Get the powdered sugar ready (and sprinkles if desired). Mix 1 cup of powdered sugar with 1 cup of crushed cookies. You will add this later.
Now you will melt the chocolate. You can do this in the microwave or on the stove. In the microwave, you will use a large glass bowl and just microwave for 30 seconds at a time until melted. DO NOT OVERCOOK. (It should only take 1 minute).
To melt the chocolate on the stove, you will put a glass bowl on top of a pot full of boiling water. This takes longer. It is up to you which method to use. Whichever way you choose, make sure your bowl is microwave/heat safe!
When your chocolate is melted, you will pour it over the popcorn mixture, stirring as you go. This part is great if you can have someone else help stir while you pour, or vice versa.
You will now add the marshmallows, chocolate M&M’s, coconut, etc to give it that Easter look. You can change these around to make it for any seasonal look.
With everything coated with chocolate, you will now add the powdered sugar and cookie crumble mixture. Do this a little at a time while someone is stirring. This will give a delicious coating to the chocolate covered popcorn.
We got the cutest Easter bunny treat cups from Oriental Trading to put the popcorn in. My kids loved it while they watched the movie! Be sure to pin one of the pictures below to save this for later so you can find this recipe easily to make it whenever you want it!
