These Crispy French Toast Sticks are perfect to make ahead and freeze and then microwave or bake when you want some. This is one of my kids’ favorite breakfasts. And right now, with my kids home all the time, we have been having a lot of fun making their favorite breakfasts.
We actually have french toast quite often, but I don’t take the time to make the sticks the way they should be made (just cutting them into slices after they are done cooking has been the easy way out). But I will occasionally make them the right way – and wanted to share with you how easy it is.
Just cut the bread into “sticks” and then mix your batter. For 6 of us, I usually do a dozen eggs and 3/4 – 1 cup of milk. Then mix well. Dip the bread into the batter and let it soak for a few seconds and then put them into the pan. I used silicone tongs for both the dipping and the frying because they are heat resistant and work well in the oil.
I know I am showing a pot in the picture above – but a large frying pan, as shown below, is much more effective with a thin layer of oil to fry both sides of the bread.
When you have enough French Toast Sticks, you can clean the pan out and then fry the rest of the batter to make scrambled eggs. I usually serve these with fruit and juice and or milk. Warm syrup and powdered sugar are great toppings for the sticks.
I hope this gives you a delicious breakfast idea to make with your kids. As I said, you can make as much as you want and refrigerate or freeze it and just microwave or bake when you want to eat them. You can pin the image below to save this recipe.
