My kids are really loving all of the fun Halloween Treats that we have been making this year – some we have already shared and some are still coming. Making Monster Cupcakes was one of their favorites – as they helped me with ideas for these – and then I put all of the stuff out and let them make their own monster cupcakes. They had some really cute fun ideas and all of my kids ages 3-10 loved it! This would be a fun family night or party idea. Since I just made the cupcakes from a box – I don’t really have a recipe but I will share some tips and tricks.
For our Monster Cupcakes – we used cut up pieces of Green Pull-Apart licorice for the hair on the spider, the stem of the pumpkin, and even as antennas on the aliens (not pictured), the witch hair and more. We used candy eyes for a few of them, black frosting from a squeeze tube, toothpick accessories, and mini marshmallows with black frosting dots for eyes. We also used sixlets for some of the “pearl” looking accessories. There are also mini chocolate chips, sprinkles, and ice cream cones. I also recommend Silicone Cupcake Liners as they do not stick.
We made our own Cream Cheese Frosting. It is really easy – if you haven’t done this before.
CREAM CHEESE FROSTING RECIPE:
- 1 package of softened cream cheese
- 8 oz of unsalted butter (I have used salted and it takes good, but don’t use margarine)
- 2 cups of powdered sugar (add more as desired for sweetness)
- 1 tsp of vanilla (I use imitation or extract)
Add all ingredients together and mix until well blended. You can separate into different bowls and add food coloring to create different colors of frosting.
