Thanksgiving is almost upon us, and quite honestly, the pies are my favorite part of the meal. I love the different varieties and flavors and will eat my pie before I eat Thanksgiving dinner every time! I have to make sure I have room for pie ;). With that being said, I also have four littles who love to eat pie, but they are sometimes always messy, so I wanted a better solution. These pumpkin hand pies are great!
We were making pumpkin pies, and while I was shopping, I walked by the refrigerated biscuits and rolls and saw the Pillsbury Crescent Rolls. I thought how perfect those would be to make Pumpkin Hand Pies with – so I grabbed a two-pack and checked out. I am so glad I got them – and so is my family – because they tasted amazing and they were perfect for the Pumpkin Hand Pies recipe that I did.
This recipe is really easy to do because of the Pillsbury® Crescent Rolls dough, and the pumpkin pie mix (I used canned pumpkin and mixed all the ingredients together), with the glaze and the whipped cream – they turned out better than I could have imagined. My family loved them so much – there was only one left! One of my favorite Holiday traditions is making pies and enjoying them together after a delicious Thanksgiving feast. I want to pass that on to my kids, so I like to not only enjoy the pie with them but also have them help me make them. Even my year old gets excited and wants to help in the kitchen.
To make them, you will need Crescent Rolls, Canned pumpkin (or whatever you prefer to use), milk, sugar, chopped walnuts, and whip cream.
Take the package of Crescent Rolls and open them up on a cookie sheet lined with a silicon baking mat or parchment paper. Otherwise, be sure to spray with non-stick spray. Make the pumpkin filling according to package directions, then one by one – you will add a dab of the pumpkin mixture into the center and fold the edges up to meet. I did it a couple of different ways and really liked how this one turned out the best. You can also roll the triangle of dough and then fold it over to make it completely sealed. Either way it tasted really yummy. Once the pies are all made, you will baste milk over the top and sprinkle white sugar on them to give them a yummy glaze and sweet crust flavor. Bake in the oven for about 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees. Top with whip cream and chopped walnuts. These are the perfect treat for Thanksgiving and pumpkin pies are a tradition – so this is a great way to have them without as much mess.
