Spiced Apples Shortcake with Caramel Sauce

Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook time: 10-15 minutes
Yield: 8 servings

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 3 tsp of cinnamon
  • 3 tsp white sugar
  • 1 cup of apple juice
  • 6 large apples, cored and diced
  • 2 tablespoons of caramel topping

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Core apples (with apple slicer is easiest), then take apples slices and chop into bite-size pieces.
  2. Place chopped apples into sauce pan, add apple juice, white sugar, cinnamon, and brown sugar and cook over low heat for 10-15 minutes until tender – stirring frequently to prevent burning. Add the caramel and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes.
  3. Spoon spiced apples over a piece of shortcake, adding some of the sauce from the pan, and then drizzle with caramel topping.
  4. Serve right away so the apples are warm.

We just got a pre-made angel food cake from the store and a jar of caramel sauce when we make this.
