With the kids being home all the time now because of COVID-19, we have been having a lot of fun crafting and baking. (there is a lot of other things going on too – but I like to make time for these). This last weekend we all had a lot of fun making Sugar Cookie Easter Baskets. You don’t need much to put these together, and they are fun for all ages.
To make your fun sugar cookie Easter basket cookies, you will need:
- muffin pan
- sugar cookie dough (you can make or buy)
- green frosting (get white and dye it green if needed)
- shredded coconut (dyed green with food coloring)
- green food coloring
- candy eggs
Use a mini muffin pan and take a circle of the dough and form it into a nest shape. Then you will bake them according to package directions. You may want to ball up a little tinfoil and put it into the center of each cookie to keep it from falling or changing shape. I didn’t add anything and they baked perfectly
Once you have them all formed and baking, you will want to get your other supplies ready. Put about a cup of shredded coconut into a glass bowl and then add a few drops of green food coloring and use a spoon to mix until all of the coconut shreds are coated.
You will also want to get the frosting ready if it needs to be dyed green.
Once the cookies are done, let them cool a bit before taking them out. Once they have cooled completely, you can now start the decorating.
Add the green frosting, then the green shredded coconut and then the eggs. Let your kids have fun by adding sprinkles or other treats. You can even add small strawberry chunks (as long as they will get eaten right away).
I hope your family has as much fun making these as we did. A great family activity that is simple but everyone will enjoy doing and eating!
